The LPGA’s Chevron Championship will be played in Rancho Mirage one final time starting Thursday.
The championship, previously titled the ANA Inspiration Tournament, will be held at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage from March 31-April 3 before moving in 2023.
The 50-year-old tournament features some of the world’s most talented players including Inbee Park, Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Lydia Ko and Jin Young Ko.
It is one of the LPGA’s five major championships, along with the U.S. Women’s Open, the Women’s PGA Championship, the Women’s British Open and the Evian Championship.
The Chevron Corp. is the new title sponsor of the tournament, dubbing it the Chevron Championship as a part of a six-year partnership that includes its move to a yet unspecified location in Texas.
“We do not make the move lightly,” LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said when the sponsorship was announced last October. “Since David Foster and Dinah Shore created this competition in 1972, it has held a special place in the hearts of our players and fans around the world. No matter where it is held, Dinah and her influence, along with the history built at Mission Hills, will be an integral part of The Chevron Championship.”
Chevron will increase the prize pool for the 2022 championship to $5 million, a 60% increase.
