Comedian Shane Gillis will host the 2025 ESPYS next month at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, ESPN announced Tuesday.
The annual awards show, which celebrates the most memorable moments in sports from the previous year, will begin at 5 p.m. PT on July 16, and will air live on ABC and stream live on ESPN+.
The ESPYS will also be available to stream on-demand the next day on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.
“I’m excited to be at the ESPYS this year,” Gillis said. “I like sports so this should be a good time.”
Craig Lazarus, ESPN vice president and executive producer of the ESPYS, said Gillis “is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host.”
Gillis first gained widespread notoriety when he was announced as a new cast member on “Saturday Night Live” in 2019, only to be fired soon afterward when clips surfaced of a podcast in which he used a mocking Asian accent in some jokes.
He has since gone on to great success as a touring standup and podcast personality, and was even invited to host “Saturday Night Live” twice.
Gillis is the creator and star of the Netflix show “Tires,” which returned in June 2025 for its second season and remains in Netflix’s Top 10.
