Metro Friday will begin a series of consecutive weekend-only street lane closures on Van Nuys Boulevard for ongoing construction of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project.
According to the agency, the street closures will be implemented for approximately 10 to 12 weekends with the following work hours: Fridays at 8 p.m. to Mondays at 6 a.m. Construction workers will be tasked with asphalt removal, pile drilling, rebar installation and concrete placement.
Additionally, the work includes shoring up an existing storm drain pipe at the Van Nuys Metro G (Orange) Line Station.
The closures will impact Van Nuys Boulevard from Oxnard Street to Delano Street in Van Nuys.
To help reduce traffic, the agency will implement a detour route:
— Northbound Van Nuys Boulevard between Oxnard Street and Calvert Street will be closed;
— Traffic will be detoured via left on Oxnard Street, right on Kester Avenue and right on Victory Boulevard before returning to Van Nuys Boulevard;
— Southbound Van Nuys Boulevard lanes will be reduced to one lane between Delano Street and Oxnard Street.
Bus Lines 233, 237 and 761 traveling northbound on Van Nuys Boulevard will be detoured to the right on Oxnard Avenue, left onto Hazeltine Avenue, left for Victory Boulevard and back onto Van Nuys.
Southbound bus line service will not be impacted by weekend construction.
The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project is expected to be complete in 2031. It is a 6.7-mile light rail that will connect neighborhoods such as Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima along Van Nuys Boulevard, one of the busiest streets in the San Fernando Valley.
Businesses that are impacted by ongoing construction can reach Metro to receive support via so-called mitigation programs. More information about the project is available at metro.net/eastsfv or Metro staff can be reached at communityrelations@metro.net and 818-701-3844.
