A four-day streak of decreases to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County totaling 1.9 cents ended Saturday with an increase of three-tenths of a cent to $4.725.
The average price is seven-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 11.9 cents more than one month ago and 16.8 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price has dropped $1.768 since rising to a record $6.493 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The streak of decreases followed a run of seven increases in eight days totaling 3.5 cents.
A run of eight decreases in nine days to the Orange County average price totaling 2.4 cents ended with an increase of a half-cent to $4.697. The run of decreases followed 27 increases in 28 days totaling 27.4 cents that boosted the Orange County average price to its highest amount since May 24.
The Orange County average price is 1.3 cents less than one week ago but 12.8 cents more than one month ago and 20.7 cents higher than one year ago. It has dropped $1.761 since rising to a record $6.458 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped for the eighth time in nine days, decreasing 1.1 cents to $3.137. It has dropped 6.6 cents over the past nine days, including nine-tenths of a cent Friday. The national average price decreased three consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Monday then resumed dropping Tuesday.
The national average price is 5.2 cents less than one week ago, 7.1 cents lower than one month ago and 8.6 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $1.879 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
AAA attributes the dropping prices in part to the start of the sale of winter-blend gasoline in some states which is cheaper to produce and the resolution of a pipeline issue in the Pacific Northwest.
