A motorcycle rider was killed Tuesday in a collision on the Hollywood (101) Freeway near East Hollywood.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol were called at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to the southbound freeway and Melrose Avenue where they learned the motorcycle rider and a white Honda Pilot where involved in a collision, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

The victim, who was found lying in one of the freeway’s middle lanes, was pronounced dead at the scene, Garcia said.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters used hydraulic tools to extract the victim, who was trapped underneath a red Toyota Corolla.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of three lanes of the freeway while they investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
