A 154-acre brush fire that has been burning for four days northwest of Corona was 85 percent contained Saturday.
Firefighters from multiple agencies are working to encircle the blaze, which broke out early Tuesday afternoon alongside the Corona (71) Expressway, near the boundary separating Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
For a time, the flames crossed into San Bernardino County, approaching Euclid Avenue in Chino, but the brush fire now is concentrated just inside Riverside County, according to reports from the scene.
One firefighter was evaluated in the early stages of the brusher for an unspecified, non-life-threatening injury, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. No other injuries have been reported, and no homes or other structures have been threatened.
Crews from the Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Ontario and Corona fire departments are on the fire lines.
Officials said a white sedan caught fire, possibly from overheating, and the vehicle was quickly engulfed, after which flames jumped from the car to dry vegetation nearby, culminating in a wildland blaze that prompted the California Highway Patrol to shut down all northbound lanes of the 71 Tuesday.
Lanes were re-opened late Tuesday night.
