Seasoned and novice artists will showcase their works in downtown Riverside Sunday during an auction to raise funds for programs benefiting animals in shelters throughout Riverside County.

The nonprofit Animal Solutions Konnection — ASK — Foundation will host the “Art for the Animals” event at the Fox Performing Arts Center, beginning at 4 p.m.

Paintings, photographs, drawings and other artwork will be sold during the silent auction, proceeds of which support special programs run by the county Department of Animal Services, according to agency spokesman John Welsh.

One of the featured artists will be Chick Curtis, whose works include chimera, vignettes of daily life and beach scenes. Welsh said.

“It’s about enjoying each stage,” Curtis said of the development process. “Shape, form. Each stage gets cleaner. Even something ugly does not bother me. I know the beauty is going to come by trusting, by being patient.”
