A motorist was killed Monday in a head-on collision just east of Moreno Valley that left another person injured.
The crash was reported about 7:25 a.m. on Gilman Springs Road, just south of Alessandro Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to the CHP, when the two sedans collided on the north-south corridor, one of them spun down an embankment and the other remained in lanes.
There was no word on what triggered the crash.
Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived within a few minutes and found one driver dead and the other trapped inside his car, suffering moderate injuries.
The individual, whose identity was not released, was extricated less than 20 minutes later and taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to the CHP.
Officers shut down Gilman Springs between Alessandro and Bridge Street to clear the wreckage and conduct a preliminary investigation. The Alessandro connector to Gilman Springs was also closed.
The CHP re-opened the roads shortly before 11 a.m.
