A nine-mile corridor connecting Moreno Valley and San Jacinto will be completely shut down for two nights next week to enable crews to continue adding safety features to the route.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, and Wednesday, Nov. 6, Gilman Springs Road will be closed in both directions between the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway and state Route 79, according to the Riverside County Department of Transportation.

The closures will begin at 8 p.m. both nights and conclude at 5 a.m. each morning. Transportation officials recommended that motorists use the Ramona Expressway and Highway 79 as alternate routes.

According to the county, crews will be installing rumble strips during the closures. The strips consist of road indentations that alert motorists when they’re crossing into an opposing traffic lane.

The work is part of a nearly $5 million project that began in early June to rehabilitate large sections of Gilman Springs Road. New asphalt has been laid, shoulder space has been increased and guardrails have been replaced on various segments of the two-lane corridor.

Transportation Director Patty Romo said the improvements have made Gilman Springs safer.

More information about the project is available from the contractor at 877-672-7765.
