A large tree that caught on fire Sunday in Riverside resulted in a power outage to several surrounding blocks.

The fire was reported at 11:49 a.m. in the 3900 block of Ottawa Avenue, according to the Riverside City Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, they found the tree had come into contact with nearby power lines, causing the blackout, said Capt. Scott Wilson.

“Riverside City Firefighters confirmed that no power lines were down and there was no threat to the neighborhood,” Wilson said.

A crew from Riverside Public Utilities was called to the scene and restored power to the neighborhood.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
