Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the city of Torrance has canceled the 2020 Armed Forced Day Parade and Celebration, which was scheduled to be held May 15-17.
“Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 and its potential to adversely affect the military, community and its visitors, the city believes that by canceling the 61st Annual Armed Forces Day Parade, we can play a proactive role in helping slow and reduce the number of cases within our community,” according to the city.
The annual event was initiated by Mayor Albert Isen in 1960 in an effort to “increase public respect and understanding for military service and promote civic-military relationships,” according to Isen.
The city hopes to continue the tradition in 2021.
