A brush fire that ignited in a homeless encampment in Palm Springs Wednesday nearly spread to an adjacent apartment complex before being extinguished by firefighters, but no injuries were reported.
The blaze was reported at 11:09 a.m. within vacant land in the 300 block of South Calle Encilia, said Palm Springs Fire Department Capt. Nathan Gunkel.
The fire blazed for about 15 minutes within a small area at the site of a reported homeless encampment before being put down by firefighters, Gunkel said.
When firefighters arrived, the occupants of the camp were gone, he said.
No additional information was available.
