A person who suffered burn injuries when a vehicle caught fire Saturday east of Indio was airlifted to a hospital.
The fire occurred about 3 p.m. on southbound state Route 86 south of the Interstate 10 connector, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to a CHP incident report, a caller said that the vehicle erupted into flames after it crashed, and that good Samaritans attempted to pull a woman out of the burning wreckage before emergency crews arrived.
Witnesses also reported that two children were inside the vehicle, according to the CHP.
One person was flown to a burn center via air ambulance, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured.
