Nine people were displaced by an attic fire that was sparked by an electrical malfunction in Riverside, fire officials said Saturday.
The fire was reported at 4:14 a.m. Friday in the 2300 Block of Vermont Avenue, according to Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff DeLaurie.
Firefighters used thermal imaging equipment to find the source and extent of the fire before opening the home’s roof and ceiling to douse the burning insulation and debris, DeLaurie said.
Investigators later determined that the blaze, which caused an estimated $70,000 in damage, was started by an electrical failure above the kitchen.
All nine of the displaced residents were able to find alternative housing, according to DeLaurie.
No injuries were reported.
