A grass fire scorched about two acres Monday just east of Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley Monday, but no structures were damaged.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the area of Day Street and Eucalyptus Avenue, less than a quarter-mile from the Eucalyptus on-ramps to the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Four engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a slow rate through tall grass in an open field. By 2:45 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had been stopped, and the blaze was near full containment.

Crews were expected to remain on the fire lines until close to nightfall, mopping up, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
