A pedestrian who was fatally injured in a Palm Desert crosswalk was identified Friday as a 25-year-old local resident.
Sanford Reed died at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage about a half-hour after the accident, which occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday near Monterey Avenue and Hovley Lane, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez.
According to Vasquez, Reed was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street about 10 p.m., and then was struck by two other cars. It’s unclear whether he was crossing the intersection on a green light.
The driver of the first vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to sheriff’s officials, who said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to call Deputy Nicole Wilhite of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at 760-836-1600. Tipsters can also remain announced by calling 760-341-7867.
