A fiery head-on collision west of Aguanga killed one person and injured three others Sunday.

The crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 79 west of Dugan Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

One person died, one suffered major injuries, one suffered moderate injuries and another suffered minor injuries, fire officials said.

Callers told a California Highway Patrol dispatcher that one of the vehicles became fully engulfed in flames and passersby stopped and attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher before first responders arrived.

Highway 79 was completely shut down for the death investigation, according to Caltrans.
