High temperatures could soar into the triple digits Wednesday in most of Riverside County, but cooler weather is on its way for this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

High pressure over the southwestern United States will keep temperatures about 5-10 degrees above seasonal average through at least Thursday, forecasters said. Then, a low pressure system will move in over central California and bring a slow cooling trend through Monday.

High temperatures Wednesday could reach 108 degrees in the Coachella Valley, 101 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, 99 in Riverside, 98 in Lake Elsinore, 97 in Temecula, 99 in Hemet and 85 in Idyllwild.

Highs in the Coachella Valley are expected to reach 109 on Thursday, then drop to 107 on Friday, according to the NWS. The mercury in the Riverside metropolitan area is forecast to reach around 99 on Thursday before dropping to 98 on Friday.
