A vehicle fire sparked a 200-acre brush fire Thursday in the San Jacinto Mountains near Palm Springs, which was reported to be burning at a “critical” rate of spread.
The blaze was reported about 2:40 p.m. in the 15000 block of Snow Creek Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
There were 117 firefighters assigned to the firefight from multiple agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service. They were being assisted by four Cal Fire aircraft and two water-dropping helicopters.
The CHP reported that a work truck caught fire, which spread to nearby vegetation. The CHP also said the brush fire was nearing a structure with a propane tank, and that high winds were advancing the flames.
No evacuations had been ordered as of 4:30 p.m.
