A fire that erupted Thursday just east of Mt. San Jacinto College scorched roughly an acre before firefighters got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Blue Ridge Lane and Western Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The department reported that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames in a field, burning through moderate vegetation on a northeast track, according to the department.

There was one house in the path of the fire, but firefighters quickly deployed for structure protection and prevented the blaze from damaging any part of the property, according to reports from the scene. The campus was not threatened.

The fire was completely contained at 6:20 p.m.

Firefighters were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until about 8 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
