A brush fire scorched about three acres Thursday along state Route 86 in Coachella before firefighters were able to contain it.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 3:20 p.m. near Avenue 50, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered the blaze burning in heavy brush at a moderate rate of spread.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire by about 6:20 p.m.
Crews were expected to remain on scene for several hours mopping up.
The California Highway Patrol reported that one northbound lane would remain blocked until about 9 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
