A collision involving several vehicles clogged up traffic Wednesday morning on Interstate 10 in Banning.
The crash involved between four and five vehicles and occurred around 7:50 a.m. within an eastbound crossover lane near Eighth Street erected as part of a Caltrans construction project, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Injury information was not immediately available.
The crash blocked the single lane, and a Sigalert was issued as traffic backed up. There was no immediate word on when the lane would reopen.
Caltrans deployed the temporary crossover lane along about five miles of roadway between Banning and Cabazon over the summer as part of the I-10 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, also called the I-10 Tune-Up.
The roughly five-mile temporary lane was built to allow eastbound traffic to cross onto the opposing side of the roadway onto a separated lane from the others to avoid daytime lane closures associated with the project, according to Caltrans.
