Two people in a stolen vehicle were injured Tuesday in a crash that occurred while the driver was attempting elude sheriff’s deputies, authorities said.
The solo vehicle crash was reported at 2:06 p.m. in the area of Ramon and Thousand Palms Canyon roads, according to the sheriff’s and county fire departments.
One of occupants of the vehicle was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries described as moderate and the other was transported by ground ambulance for treatment of injuries described as minor, while a third escaped injury, according to the fire department.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported the pursuit began at 2:02 p.m. in the area of Ramon Road and Desert Moon Drive.
Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro said deputies attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle that had been reported stolen, but the driver took off, triggering a brief chase that ended with the crash. The driver, who was not immediately identified, was among the injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
No deputies were hurt.
