One person was killed and five others were injured Monday afternoon in a five-vehicle collision in Nuevo.
The multi-vehicle wreck occurred about 4:10 p.m. on the Ramona Expressway, near Lakeview Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. A tractor-trailer and a mix of other vehicles collided on the two-lane corridor, though the circumstances were unclear.
The big rig went down an embankment but did not overturn, according to the CHP.
An occupant of one car was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics, according to reports from the scene.
CHP officers shut down both sides of the Expressway while first responders treated the injured and the wreckage was removed.
As of 5 p.m., the full closure remained in effect, and there was no word on when it would be lifted.
Most of the patients were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment, while one was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. Their injuries ranged from moderate to major, according to reports from the scene.
