A brush fire that erupted Tuesday on the north end of Moreno Valley consumed five acres and threatened homes before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 3:20 p.m. in the area of Pioneer Ridge and Saddle Ridge roads, adjacent to Poorman’s Reservoir, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in medium vegetation. Crews established defensive perimeters in the 23400 block of Parkland Avenue as the fire approached residences on the street, according to reports from the scene. However, the flames did not reach any of the homes.
A Cal Fire air tanker made at least one run on the fire.
At 4:20 p.m., the brusher’s forward rate of spread was stopped and full containment was achieved minutes later.
County fire personnel initially put out mutual aid requests, seeking help from the nearby Redlands Fire Department, but the assistance was canceled after the crews’ hose lines were in place, according to officials.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
