A 61-year-old man was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly stealing nearly $170,000 from a client in a home sale, according to records obtained Tuesday.
Jonny Lee Morales was charged in 2020 with one count of grand theft and nine counts of money laundering, with sentencing enhancements for aggravated white collar crime between $100,000 and $500,000.
He was arrested on a warrant Monday, according to jail records.
Orange County District Attorney investigator Alicia Gugisberg wrote in a declaration in support of increasing the defendant’s bail that Morales has “misappropriated a client’s escrow proceeds from the sale of their home from the bank account of VQ Legal Team and withdrawn and/or dissipated the funds in the amount of $169,147.62.”
