A brush fire broke out Wednesday just west of Perris Valley Airport, burning an acre but not immediately threatening any structures.
The non-injury blaze was reported at about 12:20 p.m. in the area of Goetz and Mapes roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and water tender crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving slowly eastward in heavy vegetation. Firefighters deployed along the surrounding roads to establish tentative containment lines, but as of 12:50 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had not been stopped.
No structures were in the path of the blaze, according to reports from the scene.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started.
