It may not be as warm as the East Coast, but Christmas Day in the Southland will be pleasant. After you open up all your gifts, head outside and enjoy the day.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Christmas Day calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning then becoming sunny. Highs around 60. West to northwest winds 15 to 20 m.p.h. in the afternoon.  A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 10 a.m.

Friday night it will be mostly clear. Lows in the upper 30s and 40s. Areas of north winds 15 to 25 m.p.h. with gusts to 40 m.p.h., and the strongest below passes and canyons from Malibu to the Hollywood Hills diminishing some late.

The forecast for Saturday calls for sunny skies. Highs in the mid 50s to lower 60s. From Malibu through the Hollywood Hills, local north to northeast winds 15 to 25 m.p.h.

In Coastal Orange County the forecast for Christmas Day calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs around 60. Areas of winds west 15 m.p.h. Gusts to 25 m.p.h. in the afternoon. A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for the beaches.

Friday night it will be mostly clear. Lows 36 to 41. Areas of winds northwest 15 m.p.h., becoming north 20 to 30 m.p.h. with gusts to 35 m.p.h. overnight.

Saturday it will be mostly sunny. Highs around 59. Areas of winds  northeast 20 to 30 m.p.h. with gusts to 50 m.p.h.

The ultraviolet index level in the Los Angeles area for Friday is a 2, according to the weather service. A reading of 0-2 indicates a minimal exposure level, and very fair- skinned people could become sunburned in 30 minutes if not properly protected.
