Temperatures will fall slightly Thursday but remain in the 100s in the Antelope Valley.
The NWS forecast partly cloudy skies in Los Angeles County and highs of 72 in Avalon; 73 at LAX; 79 in Long Beach; 82 in downtown L.A.; 87 on Mount Wilson; 89 in Burbank; 91 in San Gabriel; 92 in Pasadena; 96 in Saugus and Woodland Hills; 103 in Palmdale; and 104 in Lancaster. Temperatures will fall by up to 7 degrees in some communities Friday and drop marginally on Saturday.
Partly cloudy skies were also forecast in Orange County Thursday, along with highs of 73 in Laguna Beach; 74 in Newport Beach and San Clemente; 82 in Irvine and Mission Viejo; 83 in Anaheim; and 85 in Yorba Linda and Fullerton. Friday’s highs will be up to 6 degrees lower. Along the coast, high surf and strong rip currents were forecast to continue through late Friday. A beach hazards statement — one notch below a high surf advisory — will expire Friday night in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
NWS forecasters said surf of 3 to 6 feet will pound the shore Thursday as a result of a long-period swell in the Pacific Ocean. Beach goers were warned to guard against sneaker waves capable of sweeping them out to sea.
Swimmers were urged never to swim alone, to remain near lifeguard towers, and, if caught in a rip current, to swim parallel to shore until able to break free.
