Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees in the high desert Sunday, with elevated fire weather conditions in effect through Monday, when a cooling trend is expected to kick in across Southern California.

Sunday’s highs was expected to reach 102 degrees in Lancaster and 100 in Palmdale, with highs in the upper 90s in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.

“Elevated fire weather conditions across interior thru Mon due to hot/dry conditions and gusty onshore winds,” the NWS’ Los Angeles office tweeted Sunday. “Large vertical plume growth possible with new ignitions. Humidity values 5-15% today, driest in mountains/Antelope Valley.”

Temperatures are expected to drop a few degrees by Monday and decline by as much as 10-12 degrees in parts of the Southland by Wednesday.

In the meantime, cooling centers are available across Los Angeles for those with no access to air conditioning. Angelenos can find a nearby cooling spot using the city’s Cool Spots LA App at bit.ly/CoolSpotsLA.

Most centers are served by one or more LA Department of Transportation Dash and Metro bus lines. Details are available at emergency.lacity.gov.
