A cooling trend continued across the Southland Tuesday, with temperatures finally falling back toward normal levels and an onshore flow bringing the possibility of light rain to some areas.

The stark contrast from the past several weeks of heat was evident Tuesday morning, with widespread cloud cover and temperatures that made it “feel almost chilly out there,” according to the National Weather Service.

Some gusty onshore winds will be possible with the cooling system, along with some light rain.

Forecasters said there is about a 40% chance of rain in the area, but the total amount of precipitation “should not total more than a tenth of an inch.”

“Coastal temps will not change much (Tuesday), but the combination of onshore flow … and cloudy skies will cool the valleys 4 to 8 degrees and the mountains and interior by 8 to 12 degrees,” according to the NWS. “For the first time since early in the month, most max temps will end up a few degrees below normal.”

Wednesday should be a generally dry day, outside a possible stray shower or two in the morning, forecasters said.

“There will be gusty westerly winds across the Antelope Valley and its western foothills,” according to the NWS. “The extra afternoon sunshine will allow for a 2 to 3 degree warmup across most of the area.”

Similar conditions are expected into Thursday, ahead of what is expected to be a weekend warming trend.
