A deadly gambling debt may have led to the bloody stabbing deaths of two men in the their 60s at a Chinatown senior citizen gathering place.

A trail of blood led from the scene, making authorities believe the attacker was hurt. Police Friday continued to search for the killer who was described as a man in his 30s.

According to reports from the scene, the killer first stabbed one man, then a second who tried to intervene, at the Hop Sing Tong Benevolent Association, a gathering place popular with senior citizens.

Investigators were looking into the possibility that the stabbings were related to a gambling debt dispute, according to reports from the scene.

Officers with a bloodhound were seen searching the area.

Officers were sent about 2:40 p.m. Thursday to investigate a report of a shooting with victims down in a commercial and residential area in the 900 block of North Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. They arrived to find the victims had, in fact, been fatally stabbed, said Sgt. Jack Richter of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
