The California Democratic Party Executive Board voted to support a measure expected to be on the November ballot that would legalize marijuana and hemp.
The board, meeting in Long Beach, also voted to oppose a measure that will be on the November ballot that would require performers in pornographic films to use condoms.
The board voted Sunday to support measures on the November ballot that would repeal the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for convicted murders and increase the required vote to two-thirds for the Legislature to amend a law related to federal Medi-Cal matching funds.
The board also voted to support a $9 billion bond measure for elementary, middle school, high school, charter school, vocational education and community college facilities on the November ballot.
The board voted to oppose a measure expected to be on the November ballot that would change procedures governing state court appeals in death penalty cases that is aimed at expediting executions.
The board also voted to support a measure expected to be on the November ballot that would cap pay for executives at nonprofit hospitals.
The board also voted to support an advisory measure on the November ballot related to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision which held that the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting political spending by corporations, associations or labor unions, effectively gutting some limits on campaign spending.
The board voted not to take a position on a measure on the November ballot that would prohibit state agencies from paying more for a prescription drug than the lowest price paid for the same drug by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
