Women want great sex and they are ready to pay for erotic satisfaction products — including sex toys and pharmaceuticals — now that past conservative taboos have diminished.

That’s the conclusion of a new study by Research and Markets that concludes businesses ready to satisfy women’s needs can expect an almost 12 percent compound annual growth rate economic boom through 2021 in the global sexual enhancement supplements market.

Women were previously “deprived of expressing their sexual needs, desires and pleasures” and were “objectified” by men. But the Internet is greatly changing society’s views of open discussions of women’s sexual wants.

“One trend in market is incremental growth in customer acceptance,” according to the report.

“Societal norms regarding sexual intimacy have evolved over the years. Previously, it was considered as taboo to openly discuss sex in several conservative societies, but today when such cultural mores have drastically changed, there has been an increase in customer acceptance toward sexual enhancement supplements. The change has taken place due to the increased exposure to internet content, TV shows, movies, and literature.”

One “driver” of the sex market comes from women’s product demands  “as more women are having their say in choosing sexual wellness products.”

The report lists a number of vendors that are leading the expanding market, including a company called “Lovehoney” that lists on its website the “hottest sex toys” that promise the “most intense orgasm of her life.”

Other vendors listed in the report include “Doc Johnson” with similar sex toy products that include “sex machines,” Ansell with “sexual wellness solution,” Innovus Pharmaceuticals in La Jolla that makes Zestra sex-related oils and British consumer health firm Reckitt Benckiser.

“Earlier women were deprived of expressing their sexual needs, desires, and pleasures. Instead they were objectified in order to market men’s products,” the report states.

“Nevertheless, this trend is changing as women are becoming prominent purchasers of sexual enhancement supplements due to easy availability and purchasing processes through e-commerce websites. Vendors are sharing information through online forums, blogs and videos for women to explore about these products and supplements and buy them discreetly.

“They are also creating online communities, where women can share their experiences and get advice and support from peers as well as experts such as sexologists, doctors and therapists. Thus, the global sexual enhancement supplements market will boom rapidly during the forecast period.”
