The trailer of a big rig caught fire Thursday evening on the eastbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in Downey, prompting the closure of one lane of traffic and an on-ramp until further notice.

The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. near the Bellflower Boulevard exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Flames coming from a tire on the trailer spread and fully engulfed the trailer. The truck’s driver was able to detach the cab of the semi and pull away from the burning rig, the CHP said.

The CHP closed the freeway’s No. 3 lane and the Bellflower Boulevard on-ramp until the charred trailer could be removed from the shoulder of the freeway.

No injuries were immediately reported.
