A pedestrian fatally struck by a minivan in Indian Wells was publicly identified Saturday.
Leah Meyers-McCracken, 22, resided in Yucca Valley, the Riverside County coroner’s office said.
The crash was reported at about 9:45 p.m. Friday around Cook Street and Desert Horizon Way, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez said.
Meyers-McCracken was pronounced dead at the scene, Vasquez said.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was in the roadway when she was struck by the vehicle,” Vasquez said. “The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in this collision.”
The 41-year-old Palm Desert woman driving the Honda minivan remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation and was later released, he said.
