A big-screen version of a popular video game scored a narrow box-office victory over the weekend, edging out a modern film take on a classic novel, according to final figures released Monday.

“Sonic The Hedgehog” collected $26.2 million between Friday and Sunday to snare the top spot at North American theaters, finishing slightly ahead of the Harrison Ford-starring “The Call of the Wild,” which opened with $24.8 million, according to box-office tracker Comscore.

The comic-book romp “Birds of Prey” earned $6.8 million over the weekend to take third place, while the buddy-cop sequel “Bad Boys for Life” earned $5.8 million, giving it a six-week total of $191.2 million.

“Brahms: The Boy II” opened in fifth place with $5.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island” ($4.3 million); “1917” ($4.2 million); “Parasite” ($3 million); “Jumanji: The Next Level” ($2.9 million); and “The Photograph” ($2.8 million).
