A man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Van Nuys was identified Wednesday as a 19-year-old local resident.

Michael Verdugo was sruck about 9:05 p.m. Tuesday near the 15000 block of Raymer Street and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 796, which goes from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, was held at the scene, and no passengers or crew on board were injured, said Brian Humphrey of the LAFD.

The circumstances of the death were under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
