A domestic violence suspect led officers on a chase, then rammed his car into police vehicles and injured one officer Sunday.
Officers received reports around 9:20 p.m. Saturday night of a female victim who suffered serious injuries in the 5100 block of Bransford Street, said Sgt. Ron Wilkerson of the La Palma Police Department. She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
By the time police arrived the suspect, 40-year-old Jose Manuel Jara had fled the scene in a vehicle, Wilkerson said.
At about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, officers located Jara driving in the 7300 block of Walker Street and tried to pull him over, but the suspect drove off into a nearby residential area, Wilkerson said.
During the chase, Jara allegedly turned his car around and intentionally rammed two police cars, injuring one La Palma officer, the sergeant said.
That officer’s medical condition was not made public.
The pursuit continued south onto the 605 Freeway and Jara pulled and ran into the shrubbery at the 405 Freeway interchange near Long Beach.
The suspect was caught by CHP officers and during the arrest, the suspected allegedly punched a police dog that was helping to subdue him.
Jara was booked for suspicion of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and evading police.
He was held on $100,000 bail.
