A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy was fired upon Thursday evening while on patrol in Compton.

The Century Station deputy heard several shots directed toward his patrol vehicle about 9 p.m. along a stretch of Euclid Avenue, according to Deputy Miguel Meza of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The deputy was not hit and did not return fire, Meza said.

A containment area was set up and a search for the suspect was ongoing, said Meza.

There were no reports of anyone being struck by stray bullets.

A description of a suspect was not immediately available.
