A motorist was killed Tuesday in a head-on crash in Nuevo that occurred as the victim was headed through a fog bank.

The crash happened at about 6:25 a.m. on the Ramona Expressway, just east of Pico Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Juan Quintero said the victim, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was at the wheel of a Geo Metro compact going eastbound on Ramona in heavy fog.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Geo Metro traveled into the westbound lane of Ramona, directly into the path of a black BMW sedan,” Quintero said. “The left front of the Geo collided with the left front of the BMW.”

The Geo Metro driver was killed on impact, he said.

The BMW driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment.

The road was partially closed for several hours following the crash.

Anyone with information about the accident was asked to contact the CHP Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
