After more than a hour of intense defensive maneuvers, firefighters gained control of the intense flames at a Greater Alarm fire at a commercial building in South Los Angeles Saturday.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews were called at 1:24 a.m. to the two-story building at 4163 S. Broadway St. and 41st Street, where they found heavy flames shooting through the roof, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

Stewart said there were visible signs of potential structural collapse on the south side of the building, so the LAFD used a RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle to gain entry into the building.

More than 80 firefighters extinguished the flames in one hour and 33 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Small pockets of fire and hot spots are still active at the scene and the LAFD personnel and the RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle will remain on site for several hours, Stewart said.

Per protocol, LAFD Arson is in charge of the investigation.
