Firefighters knocked down a house fire this evening in Highland Park.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 100 block of West Avenue 44, near Figueroa Street, at around 8:35 p.m., according to Brian Humphrey of the LAFD, who added that the fire was burning in the rear section of the home.

It took 40 firefighters 26 minutes to knock down the flames.

“The fire, largely involving a shed behind the one story home and excessive outdoor storage with minor damage to the nearby residence, remains under active investigation,” the LAFD said.

Two people came forward after the fire was out with minor complaints of possible smoke exposure, and were being medically assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A woman was initially reported to have suffered a burn injury, but officials later clarified that she had a previous injury unrelated to the fire. She declined further treatment.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
