A man was killed Saturday when he was struck by a truck while riding a pocket bike on a Baldwin Park street.

The crash occurred at 1:15 p.m. at Vineland and Pacific avenues, Baldwin Park police Sgt. J. Serrano told City News Service.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, Serrano said. His name was not immediately released.

The driver of the GMC truck remained at the scene, she said.

Pocket bikes are only legal to operate on private property, according to the California Highway Patrol. It is illegal to ride a pocket bike on highways, streets, sidewalks, bikeways and hiking or recreational trails.

The intersection was shut down for about 2 1/2 hours for the crash investigation, which was ongoing, Serrano said.
