Police continue to ask for the public’s help to identify the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian who was lying in the middle of a street in South Los Angeles.

On Wednesday Los Angeles police released surveillance video of the fatal hit-and-run in hopes of generating tips leading to the driver’s arrest.

The unidentified victim was struck around 2:05 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Western and Vernon avenues, according to the LAPD.

Officers who responded found the unidentified person on the roadway. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Surveillance video released by police Thursday show the pedestrian walking into the middle of the street, then apparently lying down in the center lane.

A northbound car then strikes the person in the street and continues driving away north on Western Avenue, according to police and the video.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash was urged to contact LAPD Southwest Traffic Division Detective Lorena Huerta at 323-421-2500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or the LAPD’s tipline, 877-527-3247.

The city of Los Angeles has a standing $50,000 reward offer for information that leads to a conviction in a fatal hit-and-run.
