Two people were killed Friday after their vehicle drove off the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway and crashed into a tree near an unincorporated area of Athens.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 2:26 a.m. to the eastbound freeway and Normandie Avenue where they found the victims, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fox 11 reported witnesses said a white sedan had been racing with victims before the crash and drove away down the 105 Freeway without stopping.
Witnesses at the scene also said the victim’s vehicle was split in two after crashing into the tree.
