A vehicle pursuit triggered by a white pickup truck parked the wrong way on a one-way street ended with a suspect being fatally shot by officers in the rear yard of a Pasadena home, authorities said Sunday.

Officers spotted the pickup truck at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday on Hudson Avenue near Del Mar Boulevard, according to Lt. Keith Gomez of the Pasadena Police Department.

“As officers were conducting their investigation and conversing with the driver, he suddenly sped off,” Gomez said. “While doing so, the suspect narrowly missed striking the officer with his truck.”

The short pursuit ended when the pickup crashed into the front yard of a home in the 800 block of Arden Road and the suspect ran from the vehicle into a residential neighborhood, police said.

“Officers established a containment and organized a search team to conduct yard-to-yard searches,” Gomez said. “While fleeing, the suspect forcibly entered two occupied residences.”

With the assistance of a police helicopter, officers eventually located the suspect in the rear yard of a home in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle. A police dog made contact with the suspect, who still refused to surrender, Gomez said.

“As the K-9 dog was engaged with the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun,” he said. “The suspect refused to comply with orders to drop the handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

Paramedics rushed the suspect to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was identified as Ricardo Guade Andrade, 36, of San Fernando.

A handgun was recovered at the scene of shooting, Gomez said.

No officers were injured during the incident.
