Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte will join volunteers participating in the Riverside County Homeless Point-in-Time Count in the city, officials announced Monday.
The count, beginning 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Palm Springs Pavilion, is intended to accurately gauge the number of unhoused residents in the city.
Police Chief Andy Mills and Fire Chief Paul Alvarado will also participate.
In 2023, the count determined that 239 people were living without a permanent residence in Palm Springs.
Estimates suggested there were 1,049 chronically homeless people in the Coachella Valley that year, approximately 28% of the county total.
