A domestic violence suspect who led police on an erratic high-speed pursuit from Hollywood to the Del Rey area Friday was pulled out of the car and taken into custody and a woman was detained.

Officers responding to a domestic violence call at 10:10 a.m. Friday began the pursuit at Franklin Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, LAPD Officer Jeff Lee told City News Service.

By the time the pursuit was televised, the white Mustang was seen speeding erratically both north and south on the San Diego (405) Freeway in the West L.A. area, using shoulders and breakdown lanes to bypass traffic at speeds between 70 and over 90 miles per hour.

FOX 11 reported that police had backed off the ground pursuit and were monitoring the chase from the air.

Just before 11 a.m., the car got off on the Marina (90) Freeway and the suspect stopped on the left shoulder of the Mindanao Way offramp, just east of Marina del Rey.

Helicopter footage showed the driver stepping out of the Mustang and appearing visibly frustrated as LAPD officers took position nearby. He then climbed back into the vehicle, prompting a group of officers to rush in and struggle to pull him out. The suspect remained combative as he was taken into custody by a throng of officers.

Police pulled a woman from the passenger side and detained her in handcuffs.
