A brush fire that erupted Thursday on a hillside north of Moreno Valley charred more than 10 acres, prompting evacuation warnings as it picked up speed.
The non-injury blaze was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday in the area of Reche Canyon Road and Smiley Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that 18 engine crews and several hand crews, numbering more than 50 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate across rugged terrain.
Three Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were summoned and initiated runs on the brusher by 1:30 p.m.
Evacuation warnings were issued for properties in the area of Locust Avenue and Moreno Beach Drive, southeast of where the blaze originated, officials said.
There was no immediate word regarding how the brusher started.
